I still think The Tigers win the division.
For example, let's say (for the sake of arguement) that it will take 99 wins to win The Central Division (same number of wins as the white sox had last year).
The Tigers are 70-34
the white sox are 61-42.
The Tigers just have to play .500 ball (29-29) the rest of the rest while the white have to go 38-21 ( a .644 clip).
While some of you think The Tigers will collapse (they wont), I do agree that they will lose a few in a row from time to time...but they will recover and lose no more than 4 in a row, or lose 6 of 10.
So, mathematically the chances of The Tigers winning the Central Division Title are pretty gosh darn good!
If you are referring to today's game, where Bonderman had only given up 1 hit through 7 innings, and then it all fall apart in the 8th---well, you know...that's baseball.
FYI, that is the first time all year (104 games to date) that something like that has happened to The Tigers.
2 errors, 1 balk, and many bad bounces all favored Minnesota.
I fear Minnesota, they play "nine innings" just as well as The Tigers do.
Games like that are bound to happen sooner or later. It is how the team and players handle it that matters.
You dont hear any Tiger fans or players "crying" that it isnt fair, or you dont see our catcher elbowing the opposing players.
The Tigers are a number one class act.

There's an old saying in baseball. Everyone wins 60 and loses 60 (Though some teams have been tempting fate on this lately) it's what you do with the other 42 that matters. The Tigers are a solid team that hits right handed pitching well. With the other 42 games, they beat the hell out of the teams they're supposed to, and play .500 ball against the good teams, that'll get you in the playoffs. What they do at that point is tough to say. They could go to the World Series, but the road to get there is going to be arduous. The American League playoff teams could beat each other up so badly in the playoffs, that they lose the World Series due to pure exhaustion. The Tigers could be that team.

They are much improved over last year, but that's not saying much. Any team could improve over the Tiger's season last yr.
I credit their Pitching staff with the improvement in the Tiger's season, and have predicted elsewhere on this site, that the Detroit Tigers will be in The World Series this October, against the New York Mets.
Anyway, there's more defensive ability and confidence shown on the Tiger infield this year, and while Pudge is quietly becoming the greatest catcher in the game EVER, it's mostly Rodriguez's confidence and "gusto" that makes any team he plays on better by 10 games in the standings.
Look at when he played with the Rangers, or won the NL pennant and then the W.S. for the Florida Marlins: HE IS ONE CLASS ACT WHEREVER HE PLAYS
The Tigers could improve even more this season if they could hold a lead in the middle to late innings. That's the responsibility of the Bullpen. I don't think they need to add new pitchers there as much as they need to teach the late relievers to have confidence in their stuff.
sorry, but the Mets over the Tigers in the World Series, 2006

I think the Tigers are a very improved team & i give them alot of credit. this is good for baseball. That being said lets see if they can hold on to the pressure in the playoffs because as the Yankees have proven(winning 3 out of 4 & wouldv'e swept if Farnsworth didn't screw up.) The Tigers are beatable.
