Jennifer-

Be brave! It's probably not as bad as you are imagining. I had braces twice! Once as a kid in the 1960s and once as an adult in the 1990s. Believe me, the braces I had on in the 1990s weren't bad at all! If your parents will let you, and the orthodontist agrees, you may want to ask for some Tylenol after the procedure. Otherwise, it's not so bad.

It is a bit uncomfortable when the orthodontist and the staff 'expand' your mouth. You probably will not feel the braces being cemented on your teeth. You may feel the wires, but all in all, it's not too bad. Getting the braces tightened hurts a bit, sort of like a pinch. Compared to other painful experiences, this isn't bad. Really.

You will look so beautiful when the braces come off. It's worth the pain and effort you are going through, believe me!

How long will you have your braces? I found the hardest part of having braces was giving up some of the goodies- hard and chewy stuff!

Chin up and stiff upper lift, kiddo! You will be fine!

It shouldn't hurt, no. it's really just a nusance.

When they put on the braces, the first thing they will do is grind the front of your teeth.
Don't worry, it isn't painful. they just rough them up a bit so the glue sticks well.
They then put on the glue, and then the brackets.

As to an expander: It shouldn't if doen right. An expander shoudl only cause pressure, no pain. Because the pressure it constant, it may be very annoying-kind-of-painful just because there is constant pressure somewhere your not used to.

When you first get your braces on, they will proboly start you on a smal heat-controled wire.
Thsi means, the average heat of your mough will keep it in it's shape.
If your braces hurt the first week or so, drink Ice water. This releaves some of the pressure
(they dont' tell you this, I foudn it on my own. It can't be good to play with the heat wire, but it doesn't do harm in the long run, and helps you short term).

The pain pain of braces is gettign our teeth used to them.
Because there is METAL in your mouth, it will scrape the inside.
Don't worry!
Most orthodontists will give you wax. put it on, and stop the rubbing!

Overall: a slight pain, yes. But nothing unbearable. Peopel who say they can't talk are drama queens.

It doesn't hurt when they actually put them on, it usually hurts an hour or so later, though. (At least that's how it was for me.)
Sometimes the orthodonist people might pinch skin in your mouth or press something a little too hard, but that usually happens in regular appointments anyways.
Don't be scared. It's not a scary thing. You'll be okay, the pain won't last forever. They should give you wax and numbing ointment too. If they don't be sure to ask for it! It's a big help. If your mouth hurts real bad, be sure to take some ibuprofen or tylenol, or whatever pain reliever you take.
Good Luck!

putting them on doesnt hurt at all... theyre just glued on to your teeth. You'll find out that its when they change the wires to stronger ones that your mouth becomes sore, like right above your teeth.

Its a strange feeling to explain, but the pain from braces is more of a soreness in the mouth... you'll get used to it. Its more or less a pressure + soreness that you feel until your teeth get used to the wire theyre using.

Taking them off doesnt hurt a bit either.... so dont be afraid tomorrow, theres no needles involved like at the dentist. Oh yea and ull be sore for a week after tomorrow. But its worth the discomfort.

Don't be scared! I had them and now my daughter has them.
It doesn't hurt at all when they put them on. It does hurt after a couple of hours when the tightness starts to pull on your teeth. Its not a sharp pain-- but more like a headache. Take Advil or Tylenol an hour before your appointment and then keep taking it every four hours for about 3 days. Use wax on any part of your braces that irritate your lips or gums. The doc will give you some.

You will be fine and you will love your new smile!

It doesn't hurt when they put the braces on. It hurts later on when they tighten the braces. Your teeth will be a bit sore for a few days after you get the braces on and you'll need to drink lots of liquids because chewy foods will be impossible!

Look at the bright side though- I gave up biting my nails when I got braces and in a couple of years, you'll have lovely straight teeth! It's worth the discomfort- trust me.

It doesn't hurt at all when they put them on. For the next few days you'll be a little sore in your mouth. Just take aspirin. Each time they get tightened your mouth will be a little sore again. But it is sooooo worth it. Wear your retainer. I didn't wear mine and my teeth moved back and I had to get braces on AGAIN. Yuck.

Putting them on doesn't so much. The first few days after though your teeth do hurt a bit. You have to chew on something like foam rubber or they'll hurt even more. The more you chew the quicker the pain goes away. And after about 2 weeks you wont notice them.

I wore braces for a few years.

Does it hurt? Naw, not really. I mean it's not like, "wow, that was really pleasant! Now I feel much more comfortable," but it was just a little pressure, nothing worth fearing.

Hope they help your smile.
Hope this helps your worries.
