The lead in the division doesn't even factor here. A two game lead in baseball is the equivalent of a 1/5 th game lead in football.
There's no way to answer this because, as has been customary for the last few years, the teams are very even. The Yankees have better hitting. The Red Sox better fielding. The pitching is even. To the wire this will go.

Right now they are about even. The Red Sox pitching has been decimated with injuries this year. ( 4 starters currently on the DL). When those pitchers come back, they could be a vastly improved club if only 1 or 2 perform well. The yankees have a potent line up and got better with the addition of abreu, but you can still only play 9 players at a time. Having extra players will cause dissension in the locker room and cause subtraction through addition.

I think the Redsox are better right now. They don't have the injuries in the batting order the yankees do. Thier rotation and bullpen is a little more solid. Plus, Big Papi is a man beast.
I'm not a Sox or Yankees fan, but I think one isn't any good without the other. I need these teams and thier crazy fans to be full of talent and hate in order feel like I got my season's worth of basballmania.
Go Giants!

your name is nomar so i should be saying red sox, just for the points, but yankees are definitely better in all aspects. Some may argue, but I think their current team is better, and definitely throughout history the Yankees are better. If the Yankees get some of their players off the DL, their lineup will certainly be better. Come September, I don't know who wouldn't want this lineup...
1. CF Johnny Damon
2. SS Derek Jeter
3. 1B Jason Giambi
4. DH Gary Sheffield
5. RF Bobby Abreu
6. 3B Alex Rodriguez
7. LF Hideki Matsui
8. C Jorge Posada
9. 2B Robinson Cano
Every single one of them is or could be perennial all-stars.

Talent wise, the Yankees. They have been hurt all year yet the Red Sox can't seem to put any distance between themselves and the Bombers. Now with a Abreu deal complete and the Yankees only a couple of weeks away from getting their starters back, Boston will be looking over their shoulders. Yankees should take the division.

As a Boston fan I nonetheless would desire to declare as of at present this is the Yankees. If Ellsbury, V. Martinez , and Pedroia have been all healthful I make it a tossup. yet they do no longer look to be so even however the Yankees puppy tit is out.The nod is them as of now. by the way, I truly have been a Boston Fan for fifty years and characteristic considered many video games, I truly have on no account "hated" the Yankees . How can one hate Mickey Mantle,Whitey Ford or at present, Derek Jeter or Rivera. Please, you will be a purple Sox or Yankee fan , yet enable's no longer HATE.
