Writing a website won't necessarily draw members, but if you do create a high-demand site, you can get revenue in several ways:

1 - Use Yahoo Ads or Google Adwords. (just search on that for more info). You get paid anytime someone clicks on your ads -- but don't do it yourself or you'll get thrown out of the program.

2 - Very useful sites can charge for access directly to their users.

3 - You can sell ads DIRECTLY to businesses that would like to get the attention of your particular audience.

Be warned -- the ad-revenue model for the web looks awfully saturated to me at this time. I think it may be due for a crash.

Sounds like a great editorial. As others have suggested, health care would be a great addition to this. These are the perks of power that *really* divide our legislators from the common man, not asinine parsing of words to try to paint someone as "elitist." As long as they don't have to feel the financial sting that the rest of us exist with on a daily basis, they are, collectively, out of touch. As for the chances of it happening: don't count on it anytime soon. Those in power almost never want to give up the benefits of that power. What we need is to encourage to run and to vote into office more "common man" candidates, or at the very least hold the current office-holders accountable. Competition is a good thing, especially politically -- if you have a Senator or Congressman who just seems to be getting fat off the money that comes with the job, your best recourse is to threaten him with a primary election battle. If more viable candidates run for a seat, lawmakers will either have to shape up or get shown the door.
