You are probably adjusting to the baby's proper intake amount of formula. Try a little less formula and burp after every 1/2 oz. until he is full but don't force him to take more because someone said he should take "so& so amount". The baby knows when he is full. Rubbing gently from lower back up works well on a newborn if you can't get a burp by patting. Sometimes you can lay him down and then pick him up and that will allow the air to come up. If he continues spitting up most of his formula , take him to the dr or ER so he won't get dehydrated or lose too much weight. To give the eye drops: sit in a chair and cross your left leg across the right(if you are right handed). This forms a triangle space for the baby and you are hands free. The baby's head will be at your left knee, well supported. Use you well-cleaned left hand to open the eye and do the drops with the right hand. Advice from here can be considered but never do anything too irrational! Go by your gut feeling or mother's instincts. Congrats! Contact me if I can help.

The hiccups are more than likely normal the vomiting could be caused by too much food, not enough birping, or the baby can't handle the food. Seek professional help about that one.
As far as eye drops I had to use a blanket around the newborns head to keep it in place and then use both hands, another thing to try with the drops sit on the floor and put the baby in between your legs like the shape of a V then that will keep him\her from moving. good luck

Too little nourishment due to too much vomiting in an infant can lead to brain damage (but it takes a quite a while). Talk to or see the doctor tomorrow. Don't let your doctor put you off. My neighbor did and her daughter is still paying the price.
Look for a cause. If it is your milk that your baby eats, check with the LeLeche league. If it is store-bought, consider allergies. Mine couldn't keep down formulas with soy, others spit up dairy.
Wiggly babies and eye-drops, how fun! If you can't borrow an extra pair of hands, lay down, lay the baby against your body with his head tucked between your body and your upper arm. It may be awkward but it leaves both hands free to unscrew the cap on the medicine. If the eye is closed, and the medicine rests on the part of the eye toward the nose, the eye will eventually open letting the medicine into the eye. That is if the head is kept still so the medicine doesn't run off. By the way, there us usually more than enough medicine to be wasted because it doesn't get in the eye.
Here is a thought, eye medicine drains out of the eye down a little tube and drips into the throat. You can usually taste the eye medicine minutes after it goes in the eye. It has given me a stomach ache more then once. Consult your pharmacist right away, (because they usually close early on Sunday). It may be too strong for your baby. Then ask you doctor tomorrow.

You might want to mention the vomiting and hiccups to your pediatrician. Keep the little one upright after feeding and try intermittent burping sessions during feeds. Also, watch how much you feed him, newborns can only take 2-4 oz at a time. As far as eye drops go, put the head between your knees and hold the eye open with your clean fingers. Make sure and wash your hands before and after. Good luck.

Your baby is 1 week old you really need to take him/her to the Dr. ASAP.. the vomiting could be many things from a virus to acid reflux.. the hiccups are normal every baby gets hiccups and it bothers us more than it does the baby.. for the eye drops you may need someone to help you to put the eye drops in the eyes.. someone to gently hold the babies head still!!
You really need to have your baby checked by a dr. Your baby is very new it can be many things!!
Good Luck!! And Congratulations!!

take him to the doctors because my baby was vomiting from the day he was born and spent a lot of time in hospital everything that went in came straight back out within a few minutes and he lost a lot of weight through it as well and in the end they found out he has a reflux in some children it sorts its self out as the child gets older with medication that is and in others just a small operation does the job. Its just a mussel in the gullet that is not strong enough. And try and get the eye drops in when he,s asleep.

Is he VOMITING or just spitting up? Projectile? VOMITING is a concern and you should speak to your doctor.
Spitting up can be normal. Make sure you are burping him well after he feeds. If you are breastfeeding, try to be sure you get to him before he starts crying so he won't be swallowing air.
Hiccups are no big deal.
Does he actually have an infected eye or is it just the "eye gunk" that young babies often get? Their tear ducts are immature so sometimes they get sinus stuff coming out through their eyes. Breastmilk makes GREAT eyedrops. Sometimes it's easier to have Dad hold baby's head still while mom gives the drops.
