I know someone who is in the U.S. on a work visa that is expiring. Can they stay if they buy property here?

If they bought a business that employed XX number of people they would roll out the red carpet. I have East Indian clients who have experience with that.

Ownership of real property does not guarantee extension of a visa.

The fact that you own property here has nothing to do with your visa status. You can own it, but it doesn't allow you to stay past your visa expiration date.

Yes becoming a property owner does help give the ability for permanent status but it is not always a certainty. There may be new laws passed by Congress this fall but i would not count on it.

Good Luck

It might make a difference if you're close one way or another.

But we sell property to those in this country illegally, and even those who never visit.

If Osame bin Ladin was stupid enough to want to buy property in this country, I'm not certain I could legally refuse to help him with his transaction. I can (and would) turn him in, but I'd still have to help him with his transaction.
