Yes they can be just friends. After 9 years of divorce my ex and I have finally called a truce and are able to be friends for the sake of the kids. Every time we are together I bite my tongue and smile. It has gotten easier and easier. We spent the whole day together yesterday moving our daughter from one apartment to another while she was at work. We joked and talked and really got along. Of course it helps that he has just remarried and I like his wife.

I think you can be friends once the pain of the whole thing wears off. I am divorced for 5 years now, and my ex doesn't phase me much. IT just takes a while to heal from the pain. Then maybe you can be friends, but you have to rebuild your life, and get through the healing process.
Then with time and patience, a friendship of sorts may be able to happen but it takes a lot of maturity and understanding. I think it will be well worth it in time. I wish you luck.

My mom and my stepdad are not only exe's but are the best of friend. Example: When my stepdad was being taken advantage of by a younger female, it was my mother who helped him straighten his credit out, open a bank account, finance a new car, and get a new house. On top of that she continued to support him and help rebuild his self esteem while she was in a healthy relationship with another man herself. So yes it is possible, and people are doing it.

yes it is possible. my x and i are not the best of friends but when push comes to shove, my daughter knows that we are on the same page, so she can't go to one or the other and try and play us. it really takes time, and you got to be willing to eat a lot of crow. but in the long run....you become the better person, and it makes you stronger for what ever may come your way again.

It's not worth it, once the marriage is over, that's it. No point in walking over dead ground.
