I want to send a personally recorded and edited file to a friend to allow him to post it to our church website. I understand the Yahoo! allows this, but I don't know how to proceed.

You can do this through Yahoo Messenger (a direct transfer) or via Yahoo Mail, although the latter only allows for files upto 2 Mb to be transferred (or 10Mb with their paid account).
To send a file over messenger, you both obviously need to be logged in and you simply right-click your friends screen name and Send a File to him. He'll recieve it based on his download and your upload speed so it could take a few minutes. It's quite a useful feature tho - as I send some quite large files around to people sometimes..
