although I don't believe that ANY group of people that are fighting for equality should do things to single themselves out from the rest. I do think that it is important that the gay community show its numbers.
All other groups of minorities kind of wear their differences on the outside. It would be very easy for the masses to dismiss gay rights and all that needs to be corrected when it comes to that if we were to believe that it were only a few folks. Not right mind you but easy. So in showing folks how many gay numbers there are it makes their cause a bit more weighty.
Same reason churches now have bumper stickers and t shits and such. They have crossed the line between church and state and have started lobbing for all sorts of issues. Well to lend more credibility to their cause they are being more verbal about their numbers as well.
Course that is just what I think, :) Much peace

I dont understand it either. I am not for gays but my view on this has nothing to do with it. If you are gay, why some feel the need to 'flaunt' it or just almost go out of thier way to show people that they are gay? There is no need to act gay or talk gay or even dress gay, just be gay. If its something so natural like gay people insist, then act natural. Enough with the guys acting feminine and just sounding rediculous by talking like a queer. When they do display it and act it so out loud, you make it seem like maybe it really is a mental issue or something. If you just want attention, letting the world know you want a penis in your mouth or butt isnt the answer.

I absolutely agree. I am anti-gay in everyway, and the fact that they must keep flaunting their sexuality everywhere is disgusting. To me, they are not only "queer", but perverts! Their whole life goal is to be gay. All they think about is shoving it up another guy. That's all they talk about, and that's all they do. And I don't even consider this BASHING them yet. This must be stopped. Our children are going to grow up in a society that allows these people to kiss in public and have their own children(which can't happen, so they'd have to use a surrogate mother, which is also immoral). Straight people do not flash that they are straight, but I'm sure that now they are more apt to to defend themselves. It's a sick, sick way of life!!!

Many gay people feel the need to constantly bring up their sexuality because they want to show the rest of society that they are comfortable as they are and proud of it. Many people find these displays threatening, but the truth is that our society as a whole were more accepting of homosexuality, gay people would not feel the need to so often confirm their sexuality with themselves and others. So I suppose it's a sort of continuous cycle.

I think that for gays it's difficult to come out of the closet so-to-speak and once they do they are so excited about their liberation from social stigma that they tend to go overboard with being flashy and such. I am straight and I remember when I was about 17 years old and it was permissable for me to express sexuality I behaved in some pretty outlandish ways. I guess everyone tries to find a middle ground in their own way, though some never achieve it...lol

Wearing a wedding ring is a display of a person's heterosexuality as is kissing and holding hands of the opposite sex in public, but you may be blinded to notice such blatant "straight" displays.

The same reson Mexicans fly the Mexican flag, or Irish people wear "Kiss me, I'm Irish" shirts. They are a minority, and they are proud. Not all gay people display it so openly. I've known several people who I didn't know were gay untill long after I first met them.

Why did DeadHeads put stickers on their BMW's?
Why do Bush supporters mostly drive SUV's?
Why do straight people get their panties in a wad over gay people. ( They don't give a **** about you )
Why do straight people display things that are straight but then listen to ColdPlay?

Because they're unsure of themselves. They want people to be aware of it because they want to be accepted. I think it's annoying when gay people have to make a big deal out of it. I don't care if someone is gay.. just don't cry out for attention. Live how you want without worrying about other people.
