Have you tried to re-install Active-X?

The "Active X component can't create object" message means that there is file, normally a .dll that CD needs to run that it can't find on that PC. The file is either missing totally or not properly registered. If you just reinstalled XP you also need to reinstall the software for that CD. I don't know what's on the CD so I can't help much more, but it may be a music CD that requires a special player that doesn't come with a clean version of Windows.

I would need to know what kind of cd you are trying to open. If you reinstalled windows xp, chances are, whatever program you would use to open the cd was wiped off the system. You may need to reinstall the program needed to open the cd.

ActiveX is normally used as part of web pages and browsers. Trying turning off the popup blocker in your web browser and then running the CD. The popup blocker may be preventing it from installing the ActiveX component.
