Get a five-gallon bucket (like a paint or drywall bucket), and drill a small hole (1/4" or so) in the bottom. You can do this with it plugged or not, but fill the bucket with the hose, and then let the water slowly run out the hole and soak the roots of your plants.

Yeah just bury the coffee can almost all the way after you poke some small holes in the bottom and that will water that specific plants root system without waste. Wait till your hose needs replacing before going that route. I am still to cheap to use and old hose but and actual soaker hose would be nice being it is black and you could just leave it their and it wouldn't be an eyesore like a reg. hose would.

You cheap bugger!!!! Not to worry I'm just across the river from you and I too am cheap ( but I prefer FRUGAL) I have never intentionally poked holes in my hoses but I do have a few holes in them and the are MAHVELOUS ( as billy crystal would say) But I just use a regular sprinkler on mine that way I get to water grass too. Just becarefull cause now there is all that even/odd watering crap over there dealing with the water ban and not before 5:00

You can buy soaker hose. This hose is made for the water to leak through. You can attach this hose to your existing hose and place it wherever you want to water. You an also purchase a mechanical timer to attach to your outdoor spigot so that you can water automatically. I think if you try to cut corners and make holes in your existing garden hose, you wouldn't be able to control where the water goes and how much. Good Luck!

Take a large Plastic container & fill it with water & stick a pin in it about half an inch from the bottom. Adjust the lid tightness to control the trickle of water. It will water your plant all day long--.Don't distroy your waterhose.
