But if I had a buckle, could I swash it?

A swash is a long, shimmery belt similar to a sah, but with more swish to it. You wash it by hand, and it's silky. It had a tiny row of silver buckles that must be closed just so , in order for the swash to lie properly. It is a magical belt that hold up the baggy pants pirates wear.

Swashbuckler is a term that came about in the 16th century and was applied to rough, noisy and boastful swordsmen. It came about due to the popularity of the fighting style using a side-sword with a buckler in the off-hand, which was filled with much "swashing and making a noise on the buckler"

Swash, in geography, is the water that washes up on shore after an incoming wave has broken.

Swash = body of water

so to buckle it you would need to go all the way round!

Maybe that is why pirates and sailors were generally swashbucklers!

According to my dictionary the word Swashbuckle means:-

most commonly used as an adjective, a swashbuckler : Literally one who clashes his shield (buckler) defiantly. a bully, a blusterer.

So to answer your question you would swash your buckle by beating your shield to make a noise to frighten your enemy or assailant.
