it would depend on what kind of unit you have. and if it is a central unit or a window unit. if it is a new unit and it sounds like it is running but no air is coming out then it could be they hooked the central unit up backwards and the fan is spinning in the wrong direction. in which case you need to switch the wiring.

If it is a central unit, check outside to see if the unit outdoors is blowing hot air. If the a/c is on and the outdoor unit is not, could be a fuse. If it is on outside, but hot air inside, could be frozen. Turn a/c to off but fan on for at least 4 hours. Also change air filter if disposable or clean if the type to rinse off. Another possiblility is if your central unit has a pan under it in the attic, the newer units and retrofitted old units have a float switch to prevent the pan from overflowing. If the line that drains the pan gets gunked up w/ mold, then the switch gets tripped and no a/c. So also check if you have a drain line to see that it is not stopped up.

If it is a window unit, there is just one fan that blows air across the inside coil (evaporator) and the outdoor coil (condenser). Check the outside coil, If no air is blowing inside or outside than there a a problem with the one fan motor.
Try; 1, tuirnning the unit off and back on. 2 change the fan to a different speed. If neither of these fix the problem than a; the fan switch is bad or b, the fan motor is bad. There are a lot of other things that could be wrong, fan blade has fallen off or jammed but these are unlikey but not impossible. email me off ths list if you have any more questions. jamiebalser@yahoo.com

Its the blower motor, and if it isn't coming on you better shut the a/c off or you are going to end up with a ball of ice in your furnace
or evap coil to be more direct..

Try either changing or cleaning the filter. It will be in the unit that's inside, probably in the attic.

bad blower maybe? my heater did a similar thing and it was the blower. You may want to shut off your a/c until you get it checked out.
