The same can be said for women: why do some unattractive women find it necessary to make comments on a man's appearance?

In conclusion, some people are just judgemental. I don't find myself especially qualified to make comments about unattractive people, but why not compliment the attractive ones with a whistle or such?! Ha ha!

well, i am a man, maybe even an unattractive man and find myself commenting women all the time. most of the time i will keep it to myself or throw out a soft chuckle. the women i comment on, needs a comment at time. For example: a really large woman trying to sport a tube top and a mini skirt and walking around like she is some goddess. It's good that she is proud of what or who she is, but that needs to stay behind closed doors. It's called common courtesy. I also comment on very beautiful women, it's just the nice thing to do. It works both ways though, you give her and her friends a compliment on how nice they look and soon as your out of sight or hearing distance they are commenting about you whether it is good or bad. So, guys do it for pride, self respect and to let someone know about common courtesy. We don't do it, to intentionally hurt someones feelings, although it sometimes happens that way. hope this answers your question from a guys point of view.

I'm not going to respond with a feminist answer, as it will get us nowhere (even though I'm a bit of one, myself...).

Heterosexual men make comments about women because they try and weed out those who they find are attractive and those who aren't. Sadly, men tend to be verbal when choosing (or weeding out) prospective or at least, good-looking, partners. Women, on the other hand, keep it to themselves whether that guy standing over there is a hot piece of a$s or ugly as a mutt.

Homosexual men, for the most part, also make a lot of comments about women, but they tend to be more about her general appearance or hygiene. If she looks dirty, they tend to give dirty looks. If she looks attractive, they tend to give approving looks.

Hetersexual women are really no different than heterosexual men. They pick out prospective "partners" or weed out those who are unattractive. After all, if you were to put a picture of a (generally-perceived) attractive supermodel male and another picture of a pimply-faced, deformed face, midgety-looking fellow, and ask them which one they genuinely think is sexier, they'd pick the supermodel one.

The question is: who IS qualified to make ANY sort of remark about someone else's attractiveness?

The answer is: everyone who can discern which types they find "ugly" and which types they find "cute / attractive / hot."

---

Personally, I keep my thoughts to myself, thus defeating the general stereotype that all men will blurt out what they think of a prospective partner. Other than that, I don't fully judge a person by their outside appearance; I "weed" out attractive people through their personalities. So, I'm honestly speaking from observations of other people (I've seen others behave this way, and I've developed a conclusion.). :-p

ummm yeah, that is a stupid question. ARE YOU UNINTELLIGENT? They are people, why are they not allowed to make comments? Women do it so why can't men? I don't know what is wrong with you, but lately your questions have disappointed my expectations. I am not saying it is right or anything, but jeesh, next you want to prevent men looking at other people. Then you will want the world to bow down to you. It's life, get used to it

No S***! Isn't that the truth? And I'll add one to that...why do the ugliest guys always stare and make crude comments when the really good looking guys that you want to notice you don't?

Society and the mass media have created these double standards for us and we still accept them at a very early age.

Well because men look at women and we compare you to other women. So surely as the opposite sex we are the best to tell you how attractive you appear to us.
That is unless you are gay, then it works slightly differently

Everyone has an opinion, it is up to you to listen to it or not. P.S. I didn't realize that unattractive people are not entitled to an opinion...Interesting view.
