I read an article this spring about a new theory regarding the money pit at Oak Island. The new theory is that the Templars who were exiled from Europe in the Middle Ages and dissapeared with 350 ships and almost all the weath from Europe built it. The Templars were at the time The wealthy class and were in charge of banking, trade and were reponsible for the advanced construction projects of their time. When they dissapeared so did the wealth. Originally Oak Island was thought to have been constructed by pirates, but given the nature of pirates to sack, drink, and whore till broke then go sack again, this seams unlikely. Pirates spent their loot as fast as they stole it andpirate trusure stories are mostly myth. The elaborate pit and booby traps are something that the Templars could have constructed(they built amazing cathedrals in Europe). Pirates had a hard time getting over their hangovers let along undertake such an elaborate trap as to prevent recovery for 200 years.

Note to Jenny: The Island was recently sold to a new group who believe that they will finally find the treasure. They are planning to start digging this summer if they already haven't. They are being much more secretive than previous expeditions, and the Island is off limits to visitors.

The Templars were the pirates, the whole skull and bones and the black and white colour scheme support this. If you were warrior monks already outlawed in all the civilized world and had close ties to the corsairs and a fleet which would be your choice of career options. Even if you got caught and hanged the Templars were getting tortured and burnt at the stake. The only problem that I have with the Idea is the time line. The flight from Europe is a bit to early for Oak Island. I still suspect Captain Kidd

Edit: to spell checker, there already has been more money down that hole than could ever come out. the whole island is riddled with shafts like a Swiss cheese

I don't think there was ever any treasure there in the first place. I think the shaft was constructed by the Royal Navy as part of tidal drydock etc. The whole money pit theory is suspect as it would be very easy to hide a chest full of treasure in Nova Scotia in the 1700s. Just go out in the woods, dig a hole, bury it and then cover the fresh dirt with leaves.

Oboy... They're working on Oak Island again, eh? Chances are there'll ultimately be more money poured INTO that pit than they'll ever get out of it.

Yea, however the legend goes that there will be 13 people that will die before it will show its treasure. As of last count they have to have one more person die while excavating the treasure...Happy Hunting....
