#2..it seems more asking and less pushy. In particular I don't like the phrase "In the true spirit of...", but this may just be me. And if it were me I would take out the "simply" in "simply purchasing"--I don't think it does any good.

We all give thanks in different ways. What makes Thanksgiving truely special, is our ability to pass on and share the blessings we have in our lives, hearts, and minds. However, those less fortunate don't always have the luxury of such blessings. With this in mind, we ask for your support this Thanksgiving by helping Buckeye Bread Basket fund our Annual Thanksgiving Day dinner. This Annual dinner is simply not possible with out you. A donation (of $) will touch the lives of so many in our community and reward you with these wonderful greetings cards to share blessings throughout the year. Regardless of your choice, we wish you a happy and safe holiday.

In the first category, the second sentence is much better, it's more polite. I would leave out the word "simply", it doesn't sound right. Perhaps "kindly" would work better.
In the second part, "keeping with tradition", and "needy". Needy people sounds like people that need a lot of attention, like in "I always get into relationships with needy people."
You sound like a very organized person if you are getting ready for Thanksgiving already!

"In the true spirit of Thanksgiving, let us be a help in reminding all of you to share the thoughts and words that come from the heart this year with one of our holiday greeting cards." or something of the like would sound better, it will take the focus off any words that throw a mental "dollar sign" up-you DONT want that!
