i forgot to turn off the system restore on drive e: while restoring windows xp which is on c: (, and there's another one on d: as well )..but now the system restore can't undo the change neither can it restore to any other point ,may be coz i used shut down during restore as it was taking a lot of time and thus the restore was not complete(wonder if it would have ever been) a few recent files on the e: were lost ,now is there a way to recover them ,or the only way is to use data recovery softwares

There's a number of different approaches to this.

Unfortunately, you are correct - all the ways to fix it will require specialized software.
