ive been with my boyfriend for almost 9 months it will be 1 year in November. We have had some issues in the past few months, but were trying to work threw them, anyways. For christmas also his birthday right after ,he keeps hinting about a Michael Jordan basketball card (autograph) i believe the card ranges from $400-600
Im 19 years old hes 24, i make about $200 a week.
I dont feel comfterable buying a $400 ****** card, but thats what he always wanted.
Have you ever spent that much on your gf or bf for a gift?
he doesnt exspect me to get it but thought it would be nice of me.

That is way too much money for a 19 year old girl who makes $200 a week to be spending on a gift.
Maybe you could go in with a few other people (his mom, brothers, etc) on it and all buy it together.

first of all you are still too young to be buying a gift like that,.. especially making 200 dollars a week... he is a boyfriend..not husband... and still you only make 200 dollars a week. let him start off with the expensive gifts.. what 400 to 600 dollar gift did he last buy you? also start putting away money and if you are still together for christmas of 2007 ..and he has been a good boy and has given you a 600 dollar gift go for it. but you have issues already... i would be reeeeeeeeeeal upset if i bought a gift that cost that much and was dumped or broke up right after. i do not think you 2 will make it until... christmas 2007. if i am wrong okay ..if i am not.. i just saved you some bucks, you can then spend the money on a new .greatful.. loving..giving man..who loves you so much..that he would insist you keep your money in your pocket.

I don't spend that much on gifts for my husband of 5 years. We are typically fairly practical.
So a boyfriend you will have been dating for barely a year, who is heavily hinting for something, seems sort of sketch. Something so expensive (and sports related) can surely come from a Father.
Especially since he is 5 years older than you, and he might already have his degree...He should be making better money than you. A Gentleman might expect the company of a dear lady friend for his birthday.
Any "gift" above that should be thoughtful and personal. Sports memorabilia doesn't seem like a "sweetheart" gift at all.
When I was just dating my husband I made up a wine basket with the 6 wines consumer reports rated as best buys. $100.
I bought him a great diesel watch $90 for X-mas
I got him an i-pod for his B-day $199
When I was broke, I baked his favorite birthday cake from scratch (German choc., including the coconut frosting).
Another time I was broke I made a "movie night" basket with 2 DVD's 2 bags microwave popcorn, Hot Tamales, and Milk duds. If you wanted to make a Pricier one you could put gift certificates for Pizza in there, it is basically two date nights at home then.
You could get tickets to an event together like a concert, or Circe Du Soile. We saw them in Vegas it was AMAZING. Like Jaw Dropping WOW. Must see before you die.
For my next birthday we want to take a ride on this retro 1940's train called the "Zephyr" It has huge glass windows and goes through this beautiful area when the leaves change. It has a 5 course meal, and entertainers done up in 1940's style outfits on this restored train. That is going to be $80 per person. We were going to try to do it for our anniversary but something came up.
Myself, I probably wouldn't do the card. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but heaven forbid what if you didn't stay together, you would resent spending that much.
Good Luck.

First of all, quit using swears here. Secondly, don't buy a gift that you don't want to buy, or you will be resentful. There isn't a lot of love in that. Get him nothing but a card, if that's all you can afford - and give to him happily!

Hint back that you would like a gift that cost that much too. That is way too much money to be spending on him. If he wants the card so bad, then he can figure out a way to buy it himself.

As much as you love your boyfriend, you do not make enough money to be able to afford such a gift. Do NOT spend that kind of money on his birthday present.

I don't spend this much on my husband and we've been married for 10 years... heck no I wouldn't get it... give him some toward it maybe. Tell him to get a job and buy it himself
