I got my labtop on Craigslist and my battery recently has been dying out in less thatn 15 minutes when its not connected to the power outlet. I'm wondering wether to buy a new battery or fix the settings on my labtop. Any suggestions on what I can do to extend the life of my battery. I have a DELL INSPIRON 600m. I love my labtop and wish it could run longer on battery. Thanks for you help

That is the tell tale sign of a bad battery. When you first purchase a battery you need to fully charge it and run it untill the battery fully dies. Do this for at least 7-10 charges, it sets the battery and it will live longer. If you dont do this batteries will lose their ability to hold a decent charge and do exactly what it is doing to you.
Drop the settings on your computer to use as little battery as possible and test it out. If you see no grand improvment, buy a new battery and charge it correctly.

If the battery is going out after a full charge in 15 minutes it sounds like you need a new battery.

The Inspiron batteries have a life expectancy of about 18 months. You can extend their life if you drain and recharge them regualrly, but once they are worn, doing it will not repair the damage.

You are probably going to have to replace the battery.
