You can't, unless you ask the person!

Wouldn't it just be easier to ask for a Balance Sheet. It's apparent that none of you have a clue.

I have been poor at one time, I now make more in a month than some do in a year. However, I have not changed in my character. I drive a modest car albeit a newer one. I am just as comfortable in jeans as I am in a suit and unless you work for my accountant, you'd never know.

The reason for this is simple. If everyone knows you have it they EXPECT you to pick up the lunch bill, want you to cosign on their newest business venture and call you "rude" when you decline.

It does raise the question... why would it be necessary to tell a rich man from a poor one?

You can't really tell. Maybe a poor man spends all his money on clothes and therefore looks rich in public. And a rich man could care less about fashion and walks out looking like a bum everyday. So... why does it matter if a man is rich or poor?

A rich man is one who has no needs, neither spiritually, physically, mentally, psychologically, etc... A poor man on the other hand lacks fulfillment no matter how much he gains or what he gains, because he is never satisfied. The same goes for a rich woman and a poor woman. Pick your choice.

Impossible! There is no way to tell a wealthy person from a poor person just from looking at them. The richest people that I know dress like bums and the people that spend all their money on appearances are trying to prove something. A good friend of mine drives a Jaguar x-type and has the nicest wardrobe I've ever seen but he rents a dump and is constantly bouncing checks on his car payment and keeps a negative balance in his checking account. Talk about crazy!

Rich in what sense?

One could be rich in money. I guess that's the classic definition of rich.

One could be rich in love.
Or spirituality.
Or brains and intellect.
Or kindness and compassion.
Or talent, such as art, music and sports.

Rich is a broad term and means many different things to many different people.

Rich is also a perspective.

Who is rich in money? Is it the man with a million dollars? The person will 10 billion dollars?

To someone with no money, $100 bucks looks mighty rich.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Usually manner of dress. Attitude as well. A rich man will have more pride, but can usually be arrogant. A poor man can have no pride, and also be ignorant.

I agree with QT. A rich man is not usually very nice. They don't need to be. They have money.
