Mm wife and I are planning a trip to Disneyland in late October or part of early November, (less crowds, still good weather) . The question is there a way to find out which rides will be shut down for repair/maintnence?

Looks like the Matterhorn, Gadget's Go Coaster, and in DCA Francis' Ladybug Boogie are the only attractions scheduled to be closed during your timeframe. The Monorail is currently running in limited service due to construction in the submarine Lagoon.

I take it you do know they run shorter hours at that time of year. Normally 9am to 6pm during the off season.

As far as closed rides goes it is hard to say. They do close a couple for refurbishing regularly, but which ones when I haven't a clue. I go day to day catching up on that.
Here is their web site, maybe it'll help you out some.

If you know the date of when you are going you can check disney.com and click on the calender on the top of the screen.... from there you pick the days and it will show you all of the parades and times for that day... it also does have a section that tells you which rides will be down for maintenence! hope this helps!

Maybe try contacting them first to see if you can find out. I would think they would have a certain service handling customer inquiries as to rides available in off season.
