... Pirates of the Carribean got $130 million or so on its opening weekend, how much money is there to be made on a standard weekend in the box office?

It depends on the weekend. There is not a standard weekend in the box office.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest had a record-breaking opening with US$ 135.6 million in just one weekend. The previous record was held by Spider-Man, which opened with US$ 114.8 million in 2002. Only six movies opened above US$ 100 million so far, and five of them were in the summer. There are also 58 movies that opened above US$ 50 million and 231 opened above US$ 25 million. The opening weekend is usually the biggest weekend of a movie. Big blockbusters tend to be front-loaded, so their second weekend gross represent only 50% of the first weekend in many cases. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 grossed US$ 62.3 million during its second weekend, a significant 54% drop. The gross keeps dropping weekend after weekend until the movie falls out of theaters.

Weekends are special in the box office because movies gross much more in the Friday to Sunday period than in weekdays. The top grossing day is usually Saturday.

The biggest weekends happen during the summer. In this season, school is out and the weather is fine, so people go to the movies. The first blockbuster hit of the summer was Jaws, which grossed US$ 260 million in 1975. Since then, the summer is the best season to release a blockbuster movie.

The weekends are normally not very big from January to April. May marks the beginning of the box office summer. Most blockbusters are released in May, June and July. Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2, Spider-Man 1 and 2, Shrek 2, Matrix Reloaded and Finding Nemo are just some recent examples. August is what some people call the "extented summer": the weekends are not so big and that marks the end of the summer season. September and October are week months. Things begin to heat up in November, when winter blockbusters are released (Harry Potter movies, for example, tend to be released in November). December is also a strong month for blockbuster movies: the whole Lord of the Rings saga was released in this month.

Thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean record opening, this year saw the biggest box office weekend ever. The top 12 movies grossed a combined US$ 209.9 million at the box office from July 7 to July 9 (Pirates contributed with US$ 135.6 million). As the top 12 movies represent the "lion share" of the box office, the rest of it doesn't add much to the total. But there is hardly so much money to be made on a box office weekend.

During the summer season, the top 12 movies usually gross more than US$ 100 million per weekend. And it is not rare for them to gross a combined US$ 150 million total. However, they normally gross something in the US$ 125-150 million range. The box office can show similar (just slightly lower) numbers during the winter season (especially November and December).

Out of the summer season, the top 12 movies combined gross is usually under the US$ 100 million mark. Sometimes the top 12 may gross as low as US$ 70 million or even less. But they usually gross something in the US$ 75-100 million range.

some are, some aren't any further. If someone is loud in the action picture theatres that finished theatre wouldn't have a situation turning round and telling them individual to close up. What you'll usually see is human beings speaking lower back to the reveal yet in a humorous way at particular moments. P.S. what's so wierd about clapping on the top of a movie. It develop right into a overall performance.

It varies - on the average release weekend, the movies 9by this - I mean all of the movies showing in theatres) tend to take in between 400 and 500 million dollars. Average ticket price for a move is between $10 and $12.

There's a lot...considering there are close to 300 million Americans, and a movie ticket runs between $6 and $15 depending on whether you see a matinee or an evening show and where you live...
