My current PC, a 3-year-old HP with 1 gig of ram is too slow. On the road I need to process raw files and convert to Jpegs to send to my clients in London. Ready to jump to a Mac Book. Any thoughts from those who know?

Doesn't matter which platform. Stick with whatever platform you are comfortable with. I prefer Macs, but I have a PC right next to it. I do all design work on the Mac. It's what I'm use to.
If you buy a new intel Mac right now, you will not be able to run Photoshop till the next version comes out.

If the only thing you need on the road is converting raw files to Jpeg, maybe what you want isn't photoshop, but some specialized conversion program that will run much faster because that's all it does.

Doesn't matter, but PC is always better than a MAC.
