if you know someone there you can rent a nice 2 bdrm fully furnished flat in a good neighborhood and pay only $120 usa a month, that includes rent, electric, water, and doorman. you can get your gas for the stove when you need it, you will hear the men on the bicycles in the streets dinging the gas tanks and when you hear this if you need gas you just get his attention and he will bring it up to the flat and hook it up for you. you can eat all the egyptian vegetables and dishes and even fish and chicken and only spend like 12 pounds a day, plus whatever you want to drink. it is very cheap, and you dont have to go over there and spend $400 + a month on living to live comfortable, use the extra money to enjoy yourself and enjoy the wonderful life in egypt!!!

Been in your shoes, listen prices here need a good negotiator. The range is not carved in stone so make sure you have a local friend to help you with the flat.
- Flat rental in Mohandseen, Dokki, Zamalek should be in the range of $1500 per month. If you are a student then you can get better deals in student accomodation.
- As for general expenses that include food, telephone, electricity bills etc, it should be in the range of $1000.
So expect a monthly expenditure of around $2000-2500 if you want a relatively comfortable life not an extremly extravagent one.

one dollar equals about 5.7 Egyptian pounds
and to renting a flat in Egypt i think costs about between 500 to 1500 pounds a month and the bills depends on how much you use in Egypt there are 4 type of bills electricity , water , phone and gas.
but in normal for 1 person to use around 15 pounds for elec. and 20 for water. phone depends on how much to you speak and gas is very cheap can go down to 5 pounds.
Egypt is pretty cheap if you are spending dollars but Egyptians don't make alot of money if you earn 1000 pounds in a month than you are quit lucky
