My bridal party is a little older (30-40 years old, 6 in total) I don't want a typical dress for them, but something elegant that is affordable and they can wear agin. Black or dark red...and not from your typical bridesmaids shops...oh, and affordable would be great ($125.00 or so) Please help! Thanks!

I did this for our wedding. I asked the bridesmaids to just go to Dillards or another nice store and pick out a dress a littler dressier than what they would wear to their professional jobs. It worked out great and they have gotten plenty of use out of them since the wedding. We also did not rent tux's. Just asked the guys to put on their best suit.
It was a great day and everyone looked awesome. Our pictures even look great.
Why must we always color coordinate everything?

My sister gave us a color, but then we got to choose the style of dress as long as it was the color she chose. David's Bridal is where she had us go for the dresses and everyone said it was really good because the style of dress was flattering to the person who chose it, but the color made everyone look "put together."
For my own wedding I just had my sisters go shopping together and find a nice sundress they both liked (my wedding was pretty casual, guys just wore khakis and a jacket) and they wear the dresses all the time.

Why don't you give them some guidelines (a color black, red, etc) and let them pick their own dresses. That way it will be something they can afford, something they will wear again. I have seen it done in a couple of weddings and if there are a couple of guidelines set it looks very nice..not clashy or anything at all. I was going to do it this way for my wedding (if it had gone through=()

It's unlikely you'l find something suitable for a bridesmaid that could seriously be worn again. I have a few ideas though.
- Flowing knee-length black skirts with fitted dark red sleeveless tops.
- Plain black dresses in any style, with dark red shawls.
- Black skirts in any style with fitted black tops, dark red shoes, flowers, accessories.

Cant go wrong with a black dress. Some red colors dont go well with certain complexions....go to some regular stores and find something you think they may like and then find out if the store will order different sizes for you. You may have to take them in for alterations though.

the last wedding i was in, the bride picked the colors and let us all pick our own dresses. at first i thought it was going to look odd, but it turned out really neat. we each got a dress that we liked and were comfortable in, and she had a great looking wedding party. and doing it that way insures that no one complains that they don't like their dress. :) just an idea!
