I shot a gay union for two very dear friends. And I never saw any more love then these to women show each other. I think some bible thumpers are afraid that people will find out that gays are no different than any one else, that two people of the same sex can share as pure and honest a love as any one.

Before this can be straightened out, the courts have to define the word "Marriage". If it defines marriage to be between two people of the opposite sex, then the courts should come up with a separate word and definition for gay people who want to live together in a civil union. No one is objecting against two people of the same gender who want to live together. You can call that union whatever you want but not the word "marriage"..

If gays want to have civil unions for purposes like being on insurance, being able to make decisions in emergencies, etc., that's one thing. Wanting to be married, no. Marriage is between a man and a woman, as stated in the Bible. To want marriage is basically slapping the face of heterosexuals and spitting in the face of God. Go for the civil unions, leave marriage alone.

As long as people treat marriage as an important vow and they both love each other and are adults then it's all good.
The PFLAG (parents for lesbians and gays) site has information and answers to questions about this issue. Like "Doesn’t The Bible say marriage is between one man and one woman making it a religious institution" (No) and "Why can’t gay couples have the same benefits but not call it marriage" (think Brown vs Board of Education case) and so on if you would like your concerns answered. I'll link it.

That is will make promiscuity & one night stands passe.
PS// All of you who site The BIBLE are completely ignoring the rights of those who do not use The Bible as their primary religious tool. America was founded mostly by Deitist, men who accepted God but argued for rights of concience - - free choice - - which means that those who do not cite the Bible have an equal right to be American. All that marriage is, is a contract, an agreement binding two people together, or even several - - - it can be gussied up with ceremony but it is still a contract.

My concern about Gay Marriage is that too many people want to use religion to justify their not wanting it. As far as I know church and state in this country are separate. And it is highly immoral to use one's religious beliefs to opress a decent sized percentage of citizens of this country. Marriage is a union between two people that love one another and want to share their lives, it has nothing to do with the gender of the two people marrying. Marriage isn't even about procreating, as I know many married couples that choose not to have children. Or should they now require fertility tests prior to marriage and refuse a marriage license if you are sterile? It in essence is a good argument to that of marriage should be a union between a man and woman to procreate because that is what the bible says.
This country grants us freedom of religion, so while some may believe it is against their religion for gay's to marry. Their right to that freedom of religion ends where the right of the next person begins. Imposing religious beliefs on the next person clearly violates their freedoms. I don't see how marriage is such an important issue. I don't see how it matters. I don't see how this is any different than segregating individuals based on the color of their skin. I don't see how this is different than sending people to camps and pulling them out of their homes because of their ethnicity (or back to Germany and the times of Hitler, their religion). It all leads to another era of... this country believes in the equality and pursuit of happines of its citizens, unless you happen to be homosexual?.
I also think that there are so many other real problems that this government should focus on. Instead of spending time and wasting money denying its citizens the right to marry, they should focus on the fact that pretty soon many people will not be able to afford to keep their jobs as most of their paychecks will go to gassing their cars to get there. They should focus on the fact that many americans go without healthcare for years on end and have only emergency room visits as medical history.

There are a lot of concerns. I don't think there should be gay marriage. I think it is wrong. Marriage is suppose to be between a woman and a man. It says in the Bible that man shouldn't lie with man and vice versa.

I'm concerned that it might take many years before gay marriage is common place and homosexual people get the civil rights and liberties they have been denied.

What people do is their own business but marriage is a union between a man and a woman. A man has scrotum's and a woman has a uterus. We were put here to reproduce two men or two women can't reproduce.

I think equal rights for everybody . They say nothing about inter- racial marriages, or inter- religious marriages, we have arranged marriages, shot gun weddings , marriages for visa's , nun's marry jesus . Why pick on homo-sexuals ? You guys really need to stick up for your rights . Obviously you need to do more fighting
