Jack and Diane was my first ever single to own...and it was on 45!!!!!
I played that record over and over and over and over...One of the reasons I like John (then Cougar) Mellencamp more than Bruce Springsteen.
My parents had one of those huge record players that looked more like a piece of furniture than a record player.
Wow, that question brought back some memories.
What message is the song trying to say? Enjoy being young...if you're not young, keep your mind young.

love that song! It actually reminds me of my older sister. She loved it... Especially the part about "two american kids doin the best they can". She had the cassette, and would rewind, stop and play that part over and over again. Every time I hear that song, it reminds me of that moment!
