You may mean it in jest, but ultimately it is quite true of our society, and most especially among those who claim to be the most Christian.
I used to attend a pentecostal church where the preach would say week after week, "What does the Lord love....?" and the congregation would reply all together ".... A CHEERFUL GIVER!" and more times than not, he would talk about how much the church needed money, and how the tithes were not enough, but always needed to collect for some mission in Africa, a fellow minister in the community who is in the hospital, or a cure or disease here and there... and all the while, they would seldom help if you were in need. During my time in that church I was unemployed and I needed the church's help and I was made to feel quite inadequate when I asked them for help with my rent, utilities or food. So eventually I saw the truth, and never went back.
They never practiced what they preached, and they cared far more for money than for God. If anything God was a means to get money.
BTW, did I mention that the pastor and his wife wore designer clothes, they had a lavish home with lavish furniture, and she always brought bags with her to choir practice from upscale stores such as Neiman Marcus (where nothing is below $100 and any dress can easily cost several thousand dollars).
Also, this is far from unique as just about every fundamentalist and evangelical church in the US is guilty of such a racket, and to top such insult, they also hold tax free status.

If you worship money you are worshipping an idol.In Ecclesiastes 5:10 it says "He who loves money will not be satisfied with money nor he who loves abundance with it's income. This is vanity (empty)". And in I Timothy 6:10 it says " The LOVE of MONEY is the root of all kinds of evil".
While it is not wrong to possess money and wealth if your heart is wrapped around it instead of God you will be miserable. And example of this way Rockerfeller who when asked on his deathbed if he could have one last thing what would he ask for. He said "One more dollar". In fact, knowing that he was dying he didn't sit with family and say the thing that he had to say to them. He was trying to work out one more financial deal which he never finished. And what good did it do him? Someone else inherited his money and he left this world as he came with nothing.

God does happen to be real and so is money. I need money way more than I have now. I sit and think how blessed I am without lots of money. My life could be a lot worse, My kids could have sickness, but they are healthy, I have food in my belly, I have a roof over my head. I have a good husband, who is a wonderful father, I have very little money though and I would love to have more but if I had more I would just probably want more. So I really think it depends on what you want. I have everything I need. So I dont need more money to live. My mansion is waiting for me in heaven someday, given to me by our wonderful GOD!!!

Some people worship money and others God. It would be wrong to turn this into a black and white issue.

Hey whats so good about money. Some of the happiest times in my life have also been times when Ive been financially broke. Nothing compares to the spiritual blessings Ive received in Christ.

not only in U.S but throughout the world this thing is prevailing. money is being worshipped. all the relations r becoming artificial. on the basis of money one gets respect in the society. GOD should not be forgotten, HE is the creator of universe, of mankind. HIS position is on the top of the world.

I do not disagree with you. But God says, Thou shalt place no other Gods before Me. False Gods can take many forms. Money, drugs, booze, sex, anything that is more important to you than God is a false God.
