i have just instaled a new cd-rw optical drive in my p.c and it has come up in my computer as a cd-drive
how do you change it so the icon will appear as cd-rw like my dvd drive
its a samsung sw-212b and i have done a live update with the firmware but this has done nothing
any ideas

I'm not entirely sure it can be done. You could try searching the registry or use the "manage function".

Click start, click run, type regedit, then click crtl + F, then type in SW-212b and hit enter, it might throw up some options.

alternatively, right click on My Computer, then click on manage, have a look through there to see if there are any options.

Be really careful when doing either of these options as both could screw up you computer, Good luck

That's quite normal. Microsoft doesn't have the slightest idea how to build operating systems. As long as it functions as a CD-RW, you have nothing to worry about.

does it work ?
if why worry
go to device manager and see what it in there
if it is cd-rw that ok

i totally agree with everyone.

if it works it is OK.

dont mess with things if they work.

you will only be sorry when you f*ck it up.

it is only an icon!

you bought it to copy and write CD's

and if it does that it is serving its purpose.

forget icons exist!
