In my EPA training as a lead-based paint inspector and lead risk assessor, they covered other sources of lead poisoning. Occupational (battery factory), recreational (shooting, casting your own bullets), cultural (certain middle eastern and Asian spices and some traditional medicines), etc.

But nail polish was never mentioned. Maybe it could have been a issue if it was from 1900 or 1930 before lead was taken out of most products. It was greatly reduced after 1950 and mandated out of paints in 1978.

A modern nail polish? No lead in it, for sure.

You can in a way but it will take a little longer. Start as you usually would with applying gel polish: Cleanse nails with the cleanser - air dry Apply Primer - air dry (30 seconds should do it) Apply base coat & cure for 30 seconds Then apply your normal nail polish Now is the long winded bit - you have to wait for your normal polish to completely dry (not just touch dry!) This will take 30-40 minutes Then you can apply the top coat, making sure you cap the edges, cure for 30 seconds Cleanse and you're done. I have a ton of normal polishes but what I usually do is apply Sensationail fully so it lasts the 2 weeks. When I want a change of colour I paint over the top in normal polish. When I get bored after a day or 2 I remove that coat with acetone free remover and the sensationail gel is still perfect underneath!

No. Nail polish is a Laquer based paint,, and it does not have lead in it, and while it wouldn't be a good idea to ingest nail polish in great quantities , A one time flake of paint getting into your system shouldn't cause you any Ill effects.

I don't know about the lead, but that small amount really shouldn't cause any problems.
