I don't like using backpack but I need a bag that's fashionable yet big enough(but not too big since i'm petite) to hold some books and my 11"x9" laptop. so what kind of bag do you suggest?

When I was in school I was always using tote bags and messenger bags. I hated bookbags too, just because it is really hard to find cute ones. I always found really good totes at Old Navy.

Make sure that you get something that is well made if you are going to put a lot of heavy stuff into it. You wouldn't want it breaking! Also, be careful that whatever you buy will be comfortable.

Messenger bags or totes are in. Go to http://www.thehottees.com and look in the left sidebar. At the top of the sidebar it says browse products. That is a dropdown menu. Go down to "msgr bag" and it will take you to all of their messenger bags. There are like 3 pages. They also have totes. I ordered a tote from there and got it within a week. It looked great.

If you don't like their designs, their homepage has a link at the bottom that says something like get unique gifts here. That takes you to a bigger marketplace. You can type in a search for messenger bags/totes or you can search for a specific type of design. For example, if you like horses or fairies or your school mascot, type it in and see what you get. Good luck.

I finally broke down and got a regular bookbag with a laptop pocket in it because my shoulder started to really hurt with a one-shoulder tote bag. Fashion isn't worth making one shoulder lower than the other or anything.

Messenger bags are great for holding laptops, and a few books (as long as they aren't too thick). They also have the added bonus of not giving you a backache.

everyone at my school has a longchamp tote bag. depending on how heavy your laptop is, you can probably buy a bag big enough to hold all that.
