Will that protect my range until after storm?

It would be better to unplug the range than turn off the breaker. The breaker only controls the hot legs of the power source. A power spike could travel through the ground or neutral and short the range. Unplugging the range is the only sure protection from a power surge.

i'm guessing ur worried about lighting running into house? even if u cut the breaker off to the range the lighting can still run thru the circuit......if the lighting hits just right.....

by cutting off the breaker for the range, there is only about a 1/4 inch space created......voltage can jump a 1/4" bridge....sorry

whole house surge protector?????never heard of it.if your house takes a direct hit from lighting you wont have to worry about it anyway. surge protectors dont work very well anyhow the only stop small surges not big ones.

Yes. If the switch at the breaker box is off, it disconnects the house from the main line.
