We recently remodeled the bathroom and are trying to put the fixtures in. What is the best way to measure how far apart of put the brackets for the toilet paper holder?

I assume from your question that the brackets are in two pieces rather than a single body. Hold the dispenser together with the brackets on either side of the roll holder. You will probably want to set it on a table with the spring-loaded roll holder inside it so that it does not fall out of the holes in the brackets and either a roll of paper on it (or just the cardboard tube) to make sure you are not spacing the brackets too close together. If you are doing this alone, position it between a couple heavy books and adjust them until you have it the way you want it (not too tight, not too loose). Using a measuring tape, measure from the center of each screw hole in the back of the dispenser (center to center). This is your distance measurement. Using a level, mark the wall where you will put the screws in (one at "zero", the other your distance measurement away from "zero"). I would sit on the toilet while doing this so that you don't position the dispenser too high or too low - maybe 2 ft off the ground? If one of your brackets will be positioned on a stud, drill a pilot hole before putting the screw into the wall - you will have better luck getting the screw to stay straight when you put it into the wall.

Good luck!

The dispenser should have come with a template that you can trace through to drill holes and mount. If you're sans template, best bet is to put the dispenser on the wall (with the tube & roll) and trace the outline of the base onto the wall. From there, you can approximate where the holes need to go by measuring the position of the holes for the bracket and drilling starts from there. When all else fails, go to Home Depot or Lowes in person or online.

Good luck.
