I personally found a bearded dragon to be a bit specialist.
i have a leopard gecko. i have had him ten years and he is sooooo placid.
he isn't one with sticky feet so he won't keep escaping. They are a gorgeous colour, yellow and purple with black spots.
And my children handle mine on a regular basis, even my two year old.

Lizards are NOT good pets for kids. They are not very tame, they need VERY specific care, and it doesn't matter how old your kid is, YOU will end up doing most of the work. Most people cannot take proper care of any type of lizards, and often get something like an iguana and then give it away or kill it once it grows too big. The best small pet for a child is a rat, they don't bite, can be kept in small cages, and are very clean and intelligent.

Well, I would recommend a leopard gecko, a fat tail gecko, or a banded gecko. All are terrestrial and relatively easy to care for and are also docile and easy for children to handle. They naturally live in caves or crevaces so a light source is not necessary. They do well with heat pads, require calcium sand, also provide a small plastic home with moistened tp inside it- mist this several times a day to keep the humidity up. THey eat crickets, so a cricket keeper is a good idea, also wax worms are very nutritious and can be kept in the fridge. Buy some calcium powder supplement to dust his food with, and a ten gallon aquarium is a good size for these geckos. They are not difficult to care for and are not capable of injuring a child.

For starters, and for children, a leopard gecko would be your best bet. They aren't hard to care for and are on the less expensive side compared to bearded dragons and other lizards.
Make sure you do some research before you aquire a lizard for your daughter!

I would definately recommend bearded dragons, they're GREAT and docile. I don't know how old your daughter is, but if she's responsible enough to take care of it, that would be the best choice. I used to have one and it died, (after 6 years or so) and I just got a new one cause I liked it so much. I've heard the life span is 3-10 years (which is a big gap) but they aren't like mice or something that could die right away.

truthfully..no lizard. lizards are a bit complicated..require lots of care...and get big no matter what kind you get..
id recommend a Kenyan Sand Boa (snake) there small..(max i think is 2ft long) they require minimal care..and hide all day anyways. fed once every 2 weeks if that..and feed them frozen or live mice pinkies..whatever you prefer

leopard gecko. They are easy to care for and quiet mellow as far as lizards go. If you decide to get her one, I recommend Leopard Geckos for Dummies as required reading beforehand, it's very thorough.

I would recommend something not-so-small as smaller animals tend to be more agressive in my experience. Also, smaller animals can get lost easier.
Whatever you get have fun with it!!
Much Love!!
