People complain because they can. I have a response that you can ask when someone complains to you next time (regardless of what it is).

1. Actively listen to their complaint, really listen
2. Then after they are done state the following...

"Wow, it sounds to me that (repeat what they said to you) is really bothering you. What do you think you need to do so you feel better about it?"

By doing this it puts it back on them, that they are just complaining and if it's that bad they will do something about it. I'm with you here on this one. I use the above phrase alot. What I have found is that people don't complain much to me anymore.

Complaining seems to have become a national pasttime, hasn't it? My theory is (a) most people don't know how to start a conversation and (b) most people don't want to carry on a conversation about anything that really matters. It's kind of sad. Personally, I make a game of it and make a positive comeback to anything negative that other people say.

Aren't you complaining just by posting this question, making you the very thing that annoys you so much? In that case, you tell me.
