I still do even as a senior citizen. I use lighter weights now because of the great danger of overtaxing a declining body but I conpensate by increased repetitions PLUS I work a type of arobic exercise into this given the lighter weights to keep up my body flexibility and to maintain my muscles' attachment zones. Actually, I wish I had done this arobic bit from the beginning instead of just pumping iron, you know? I still have excellent definition as a result instead of the blob of most older weight-lifters. Amount lifted at any one time is no longer an issue for me, numbers of reps and type of stretching with them is, now.

the ones I lift are round and metal and heavy.
