I truelly believe that if two people love eachother than what is it for anyone to say that they shouldn't be together???? and YES the bible does call same sex unions a sin. But the bible also says that no one should ever get a divorce also. Times change. I believe that God is a god of love, one that would support a loving relatiosnhip, one that would not want any woman to stay in a physically abusive relationship, just cause the bible says so. I don't know how many of the people who have answered this question have really sat down and read the bible, but if they had they would know a few more things. Times DO change! If you want to call same sex unions a sin then you may want to look in the mirror and take a nice long look, for if you wear make-up, or jewelrey, gamble in any form (even playing cards-was called "casting lots"), listen to secular music, watch a movie or tv show with any foul launguage or adverse material (can't think of any that don't), i could go on for days.....all of those things are sins in the bible as well. As you can see......times have changed. It was a sin to wear make-up becasue in bible days only prostitutes did, it is not the same now. Please people, learn to read the bible objectly!! One sin that stays true through the ages is judging others, and we are supposed to leave that up to God. So actually, by professing same sex marriage is a sin and how it should not be tolerated...you are judging and commiting a sin yourself. If you don't agree with it, then fine, let them be, and if God truelly has an issue about it then he will take care of it on judgment day.

I agree, I can't imagine why anyone else would have problems with it, its not like once it becomes legal a gay man can force a straight man to marry him! I think anything that causing someone else to get so upset about what happens in someone elses bedroom reflects a problem the upset person has, not the gay guy! They are together anyway, its not stopping people from becoming gay couples so why shouldn't they have the same legal rights as anyone else does that invests so much of their life in someone else. Its a legal contract between two consenting adults and really nobody elses business. I think they get hung up on its against my beliefs...ok so how does it change YOUR life in any way? I'm pretty sure that if you are a homophobe anyway you aren't living in a gay community so it will have zero influence on your day to day life. They are already living together anyway. And for the religious nuts its not called marriage for them its called a civil union and if thats your argument you would also have to fail to recognize any marriage that didn't take place in a church and wasn't conducted by a member of the clergy, wouldn't you? I think they should quit worrying about what other people are doing and start looking at what they can improve about themselves like being more accepting of others perhaps. Notice that here the people who say they are against give NO practical reasons just the bible says its a no no, which in itself is a disputed fact.

I personally know 2 couples who have same sex marriages. I disagree with the concept, but it doesn't change who they are. They are still nice caring people. I feel that the system promotes this to a point, the same as couples living together without being married. There are sometimes more benefits to a spouse than to a friend, especially when a spouse dies. Too there are more benefits to a single parent than a young couple who are married. Older people as well in some places. Their pensions are cut if they are married or move in with someone so many live together and keep seperate addresses.
Marriage was instituted in the bible for couples of the opposite sex. They married to keep a good relationship with God. It was also a legal public acknowledgment of a commitment they made to each other to remain faithful and stay together until they died. It gave them legal and moral rights to a loving physical relationship and to have children.
In most states, it's still against the law to have sex outside of marriage, but couples live together all the time. Homosexuality as well as any sex outside of marriage is viewed the same in the bible.

I don't see what the resistance is to it either. If marriage is going to be considered a religious right , not a legal exchange of vows to create a union, then the marriage requirement for legal, social, and governmental rights and benefits should be thrown out. Each person would then be treated as a single entity, married or not. Singles get discriminated against in many ways when compared to married couples. Either level the playing field, or fix the game so all get equal treatment under the law. That's what the country was built on, and they should work to make it happen. Too much religion gets thrown into it, and the so-called separation of church and state requirements should come into play to correct this wrong.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!There is no way that two people of the same sex marrying can be considered moral........it's just morally wrong!!!Really i have no time for gay people it's not that i hate then but i just rather not associate with them!!!!It sickens me to the stomach that being gay or lesbian is so accepted these days.
What am i suppose to say to my little 7 year daughter when we are watching t.v. and there is a news advertisement with 2 women kissing passionately??????When she asked mommy why are those 2 women kissing? What am i suppose to say?????I would just have to tell her that we are living in a mixed up society where doing bad things are considered legal and o.k.!!!!!Gays should NEVER be allowed to marry or have the same privileges has a married couple because it is not a marriage it's just a senseless shame!!!!!Like someone said before if God wanted gays and lesbians to fall in love and marry he would have made adam and steve in the garden of Eden but then how would all of the human population be here today?????MARRIAGE IS A BOND BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMEN NOT MAN AND MAN OR WOMAN AND WOMAN!!!!!!

I'll start off by saying no because i am a Christian and the Bible says no... butI have other reasons too that aren't as biased.
First of all, marriage is a sacrament (like communiton, baptism etc) so for someone to want to be married means they have some belief in God's order, however marrying someone of the same sex is against that order.
Second I entered into marriage with my husband and we take it very seriously. It is not something we take for granted. I told him over and over this is a vow that we are making til death do us part even if I have to kill you (of course I never would). If people of the same sex get married then I feel as though my marriage is being made a mockery of.
Third, and last if we have all the gays and lesbians getting legally married they will then be entitled to each others insurance and tax breaks and many other things that I can't remember meaning society will get even more expensive. Check that part out at the focus on the family web site. He listed all the things that would go up in price if this was allowed.
I FEEL, meaning this is just my opinion, that if they want to be together, then that is their business. I won't try to stop them, but when they start affecting my beliefs and my rights and my freedoms, then I do take a stand. I'd be okay even with them makeing it legal for them to the benefits of marriage, if they'd set a different standard and not call it marriage. Marriage is between male and female the way God set it up.
Thanks for such a good question.
A father watched his young daughter playing in the garden. He smiled as he reflected on how sweet and pure his little girl was. He thought about her seeing the wonders of nature through such innocent eyes.
Suddenly she just stopped and stared at the ground.
He went over to her to see what work of God had captured her attention. He noticed she was looking at two spiders mating.
"Daddy, what are those two spiders doing?" she asked.
"They're mating," her father replied.
"What do you call the spider on top?" she asked.
"That's a Daddy Long-legs," her father answered.
"So, the other one is a Mommy Long-legs?" the little girl asked.
As his heart soared with the joy of such a cute and innocent question, he replied "No dear. Both of them are Daddy Long-legs."
The little girl, looking a little puzzled, thought for a moment, Then took her foot and stomped them flat and said, "Well, we're not having any of that Brokeback-Mountain **** in our garden."

Yes it should be allowed. Its only peoples personal beliefs that is making it impossible, but those people are not gay, so what about the gay communities personal beliefs? Seperation of church and state my foot.... we need to let people live their lives. Gay marriage will not directly affect many of us and if you don't wanna marry some one of the same sex then don't. Back in the day it was illegal to marry someone outside their race... how absurd is that?

the Lord as the creator is against it. Since he gave life and knows best, it might be good to listen to Him. He wanted something where kids can be born so the bloodline can continue. I think He is right and our nation shouldnt allow this. The pilgrims came here due to being Christian and they weren't respected in England but the Bible does speak against this gay stuff. They may have to repent of it to get into Heaven.

What they should do is not call it marriage. They should be allowed civil unions with exactly the same rights as married couples. Since it's not marriage, they're not married, this will keep the religous people happy... maybe.
If they want to be married, people should go to a church. The church can deny them at its pleasure.

Why could absolutely everyone be by contrast?

Im not big on gays personally ,but yes it should be legal .As long as you dont have to sleep with them why do you care what they do .People are supposed to have the freedom of choice and the pursuit liberty . As long as it doesnt affect any one else .They should be free to do what they want .In order to have freedom and liberty ,you have to be able to give freedom and liberty to others .It doesnt say an individuale has the freedom of choice as long as you agree its ok .Thats why it was written .Because people always have to try and dictate what they think is the right way to live ,to other people . Instead of letting each person make his own choices .
