It's a specific song, I had it in my head that it was done by M People, but I'm probably wrong. Got any ideas?

Freedom '90 by George Michael doesn't start that way but the word freedom does repeat.

was it "Living in America"? there is also a song called "freedom" that starts off repeating that 3 times by the Pointer sisters..as well as a song by Richie Havens called freedom, that starts out by repeating that word.... or possibly " think " by the blues brothers ? so it really could be a number of songs... hope this was helpful!

Sarah's right, but its based on a traditional gospel song. I seem to remember Nina Simone singing a version way back when.
