On broadcast tv you cant use certain words. You cant show certain images. Yet your now allowed to burn the American flag, take certain religious imagry from public grounds, force agendas in public schools etc. These things are offensive to certain people, yet allowed. If cursing and sexual images are banned from broadcast tv and deemed "offensive" isnt this cencorship?

It is indeed censorship. Just as one cannot yell FIRE in a crowded theatre or stand up in an airplane and yell HIJACK..just kidding, without getting arrested.

In situations, society has agreed to refuse to let people say certain things at certain times.

So, since network television is able to be seen by anyone, including small children, they selected certain words and phrases and banned their use.

But times constantly change. In the 50's you were not allowed to show a man & woman in bed together, even if they were married in real life. The word "Pregnancy" was forbidden, instead they were "with child".

In the past few years, the word Piss or Pissed started being used, so the list of words forbidden on TV is evolving.

Partly. The reason the FCC doesn't allow broadcasting of certain words is that kids may hear them. I'm not saying I agree with the logic, but that's it.

Your problem is that you're looking at it in reverse. Removing religious symbols from public display is like removing bad words - the censorship is that. 'Allowing that something be removed' may be offensive, but you could say the same thing about 'allowing swear words to be removed'. I'm not saying IO agree with it, but I'm saying it is consistent.

As far as burning flags goes, well you _can_ swear, but access of children to that is limited. You could make a case that TV shouldn't show flag burners. But that's not the same as saying people shouldn't be allowed to burn flags.

Yes, it is censorship. It is done by censors. To avoid hurting people.

Would you agree that some material is not appropriate for children, drunks and fools? And other impressionable groups?

There is not always a need/justification to pander to the lowest common denominator in society.

Would you propose anarchy instead?
What were you exposed to growing up? Do you think some of it may have been a little too soon?

Yes, this that is censorship. However there's nothing in the US Constitution that guarantees Americans the right to uncensored broadcasts.

It's a shame, I agree, but you'll have to take that up with the FCC

If you look at the history of the First Amendment, there is a lot of "censorship".

Burining a flag is inflammatory to many, but cursing is just poor manners 9and i question the need for it anyway).

And since sex is a pretty taboo subject anyway, you see how the envelope gets forced on that one.

Full censorship? I say not.
