That is one of the basic questions one asks when considering having an aquarium. The temperature depends ENTIRELY ON whether you want to keep TROPICAL fish or COLD WATER fish. Please do not buy any fish UNTIL you have read enough about the subject. Otherwise you will only spend a lot of money on the tank itself, pump (expensive), the fish only to find that you have killed the fish within a week of buying them. Over feeding, for example, poisons the water and the fish will die. I kept a large beautiful aquarium but it was distressing to see all your fish die time after time because I did not read learn enough first. Otherwise, it is one of the most beautiful things you can have in your home -- a well kept, HEALTHY aquarium. Tropical or cold water fish ? Depends on your own taste. The thing is, if you feed cold water fish too much a ONE inch fish will turn out to be 8 or 10 inches !!! -- Good luck.

It really depends on the type of fish contained inside the aquarium, but a good median temperature is around 74 degrees.

Well it depends on the fish. A gold fish prefers the low 70s, and a beta the low 80s. Generally 75-80 is good for most tropical fish, but you should research the prefer ed temps of the fish you have.

Goldfish need water at about 65 degrees, they are coldwater fish. Most tropicals need water between 72 and 78 degrees. Some from South America need water at around 85 degrees (discus, for example).

It is not good to mix coldwater and tropical fish because one or the other will suffer and eventually die because of the water temp. There is no happy medium.

depends entirely on your fish, and whether you have a fresh or salt water tank. There are lots of sites on line to help you with your questions. Just google 'fish help' or a specific fish species, like guppy, or shark, that you have or want to get.
