My boyfreind has a low sperm count and he is not a heavy drinker or smoker, the doctors were'nt quite sure what caused it, they think it was maybe the surgery he had on his testes as a child.
He did eventually manage to get me pregnant but it took us much longer than it is normally expected to (2 years).
Getting pregnant is not as easy as people make it out to be. Of the millions of sperm that are released only a few make it up into the right fallopian tube to meet the egg and if the egg has a hard shell or the sperm are not strong enough to penetrate the egg then conception won't occur. Or the sperm and egg will fuse but the embryo won't implant. There are lots of things that can go wrong. Its not just a case of "have sex and you get pregnant".
If you are trying to conceive and your man is a heavy drinker/smoker then there is some beleif that it could affect his sperm count and he would be wise to give up or cut down. But you won't know for sure unless he has a semen analysis done to see what his sperm count and quality is like.

If a man gets an erection and finishes as you put it and it happens to finish inside you then definately yes you can get pregnant.
I would be more worried if the sperm stayed up their I have to say!!!!
All doctors would say that smoking and drinking to excess will cause infertility. However, based on personal experience it tends to be when men have done too much of both that a woman tends to get pregnant. Men are less careful when they are intoxicated.

If your spouse drinks and/or smokes, it decreases the chances of erection. However, there is a small percentage that you can get pregnant. Even if the sperm is too liquidy, it's not a problem. As long as you lie there for a while, maybe 30 minutes after sex, it gives the sperm time to swim to your ovary.

I know that smoking is bad for fertility. In males it actually constricts the vessels leading to his penis which can cause him to have problems getting and maintaining an erection. The drinking also can't be good for his fertility. See if you can get him to stop both. And why would you want to have a baby with this guy who drinks and smokes so much. Both of you should be as healthy as possible and have your lives on track before you make a baby.

A big influx of alcohol can literally sterilise a man for three days. Bear in mind that sperm production takes place over three months, so ideally you should be teetotal for that period before planning pregnancy.
Smoking reduces the blood circulation and contans umpteen different toxins and carcinogens (cancer causing substances). I'll leave the effects up to your imagination.

Well my hubby doesn't drink much but he smokes about a pack of nonfiltered (much harsher) cigs a day and he still knocked me up without trying!

It's not good, but it's still definitely possible for you to become pregnant, otherwise there would be considerably fewer people in Britain!
