I'm currently 18 years old and I want to go back to high school but considering my age, I think I might just be a bit too old. I never dropped out of school; I just attended a different school which happen to screw me over completely. I would have quite a few subjects to take... Something happened with my transcripts and some of the courses I've takin' aren't on the transcripts. I've been tryin' to resolve the problem but they want me to repeat the courses. Should I just go back to public school considering that I might spend another 2-3 years in that god foresaken hell. I want to go to college and become a Elementary teacher in the future. Only thing I'm really worried about is my age. I know that I'm 18,but is it too old? I can definitely pass as a senior for 1 year but after that.. people gonna be like... "wtf'? he's still here?" In my heart I wanna go back but my mind keeps tellin' me no. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Depending upon your State when applying for the GED there are programs where you would take a few courses if you have enough high school credits. These courses are taught by volunteer teachers and you set up the time and location with the instructors and complete your credits and earn a high school diploma. Depending on your future educational goals and if they are leaning toward a college degree at a non community college school a high school diploma is better along with a SAT score. You could also do what I did at 27 years old go back to school with a community college, obtain my GED, and maintain a good GPA and transfer to a four year college without any problems.

Good Luck and the sooner you obtain a GED or High School Diploma the better. Your lifetime earnings will double from what could be expected without them and with a college degree doubles again.

P.S. My state is Nevada

Go with your heart - it's telling you the right thing. Most subjects you should be able to get credit for - hook up with a good guidance counselor.
Or JUST SHOW UP the first day. They HAVE to deal with you. You sound like a polite kid who would get along well with adults. Smile, say yes, ma'am and no, sir, etc.
As a bonus, the fact that you MIGHT look older will make the girls MUCH more interested in you.
What's your alternative, quit? GED? You have the best grammar skills I've encountered on this site. YOU CAN DO IT!!

I would take a look for your old report cards. you'd be able to prove you've taken the courses with those. Keep with finding out what happened to those courses and take other courses in the meantime that will help out your situation. You can look into taking your GED but if any of those courses are physical education you'd have a problem on a GED exam. Good luck

In most school districts there are night school courses. You can get a high school diploma that way. You don't have to go to public school during the day with all of the other "kids". You can also have the benefit of working during the day and gaining experience. Why not volunteer at a school or get paid in a before/after school program so that you have experience working with kids?

Have you tried taking a GED? There are several schools, I'm sure in your area who will cover courses for this and help you prepare for the test. I took a GED and only took 2 courses. You can still get into colleges (maybe not Harvard) and still pursue your dreams. It's never too late for anything. Good Luck!

I know its a sucky situation but I have seem older people going back because they dropped out. If you want to be a teacher just think of this as a refresher on everything you have learned. If you still feel weird consider going to Night school in your area. Its never too late to go back. You are actually still pretty young and I think you could handle going back. Just be strong suck it up and go. You wont regret it.

The GED was made for people like you. Take it and get it all over with. Don't even think about going back. You are legally an adult - put away the thought of being a kid.

Check with your local school district--your school most likely offers GED classes. You can go to night school and get your high school diploma-equivalent without actually going back into a high school itself.

It IS worth going back. It's never too late!

Good luck!
