Wade Boggs won the Batting Title from 1985-1988.

Although I'll never give him credit for 1986. He sat out the last game like a chicken **** nursing his .357 avg, while Don Mattingly hitting .350 played. Mattingly started out the game 2 for 2 and all of the sudden Boggs picked up a bat and took some practice swings. Mattingly finished 2 for 5 and ended second with a .352 avg. Mattingly played in all but 6 innings for the Yankees that year.

Ted Williams had a .401 avg going into the last day of the 1941 season. A Day- Night double header. He played, and finished the season batting .406. What Boggs did was Bush league.

Just responding to Eddiepaxel's thng about Boggs being "Bush League", do you really think Boggs was going to drop 5 percentage points in one game...especially the very last game of the year? It's statistically impossible. Boggs had the batting title wrapped up even if he wrnt 0 for 5 and Mattingly went 5 for 5. Not to mention Boggs had bigger things to worry about, like the playoffs, while Donny Baseball was getting ready to go home like he did basically his whole career.

mainesoxfan1982: Statistically impossible, really.

Boggs had 207 hits that year in 580 AB's. Mattingly going into that game had 236 hits in 672 AB's.

Boggs goes 0/5 - 207 Hits dived by 585 AB's= .3538 Batting Average

Mattingly goes 5/5- 241 Hits Divided by 677 AB's= .3559 Batting Average

Mattingly wins the Batting Title.

Clearly Statistically Possible. Take Math 101 over again.

Boggs, 240 hits and almost 100 walks (96). I remember he sat out the last game also. That was a poor effort on his part.
