lonely...
if he doesn't hv any hamster friend, bring him out to play with u more often
or introduce more new toys or DIY toys for him to play with. hamster got bored easily as there are not much things to do in its cage.
make him chase around for his favourite snack, talk to him...
or else, he will just sleep all the time.

Sometimes when hamsters are depressed they don't eat or drink much, and don't like to play or run in their wheel. The hamster is probobly lonely and needs to be spent more time with. He could also be bored with his cage or cage accesories. Be sure that you're hamster isn't sick. Sometimes hamsters can act depressed if they are sick.
He could just be old too. Do you know how old he is?

I think if anyone had the answer to this there would be a lot less depression in the world. Everyone is different and need different ways to relax, release anger, and feel better. You need to find something you enjoy and just immerse yourself in it. I have a few things I do when I get depressed, I read, write poetry, and listen to music. I just let myself indulge in what I am doing and that helps me for a while. Long term though you have to come to terms with what is wrong or it will eat at you forever. I will stop rambling on now. :) Hopefully that helps. If you need advice email me and I will see what I can do for you.

my hamster was like that. he just died like 2 weeks ago. i'm not sure if they do it because you don't pay enough attention to them or they want to be left alone because they know that they won't be around much longer. try taking him out of his cage and putting him in a shoe box and just try touching him and see if hes more lively when you take him out then when he is in the cage. sometimes they just want you to pay more attention to them.

Tell him if he doesn't cheer up, you're going to feed him to the cat.
