I'm looking for an American car built mid 70s to late 80s. That I can build for little money and be able to do wheel stands. Just for fun. Show them damn imports, what power really is.

Well, they say that out of fast, reliable, and cheap, you may chose any two. And the mid '70s to early '80s were not good years for American cars to be anything but the last of those three.

However, if you intend to build a car with enough power to do a wheelie, you can throw all the information you have about stock drivetrains out the window. About the only thing under the hood likely to remain stock would be the engine block itself, and you'll want to beef up the transmission and rear axle too.

So, if you want to keep your money down, I would say to get a Pinto, Vega, or Chevette. Hey, stop laughing. They're some of the lightest American-made rear wheel drive cars made since World War II. Light weight means you'll need less horsepower to do a wheelie. Then drop the wickedest V8 into it that you can afford, and back it up with something like a 9" Ford rear axle.
