I have a classic Gretsch acoustic six string guitar, that is about 50 years old, and in very very good condition. The paper inside the body is no longer readable, and aside from the name Gretsch, there are no markings.

I want to find the value of this guitar, but can't find anything on it. I've been to the Gretsch website as well as many many other antique/classic/guitar sites, and eBay, etc. Any ideas?

This guitar belonged to my father, as well as another made by Kay. Both guitars have sentimental value, and will NEVER be sold. I am just curious about the value, because of the age, and also for insurance purposes.

I have taken it to a luthier, and his jaw dropped open, and he said it was a magnificant instrument, and he had no idea of the value.

Call a guitar factory or a music store. Some places have old music memorabilia items, and could probably get you in touch with someone who knows. I have a friend that is very into music, I'll ask if he knows someone who could give us an idea. Maybe a collector?

Contact an appraisal service. You dont need to have all of the information, because they will have someone who knows alot already about your guitar. They judge it by the date, condition, and whats left on it. CHeck your phone book or websites for appraisal services.

maybe try getting a hold of a music store or someone who knows about antiques/vintage items. hopefully someone can at least tell you something about it and how much its worth now. but if you like it i'd hold onto it and maybe just leave it out as a decorative piece.

you need to keep it in a case and well maintained. take it to a luthier and get an appraisal. do not take it to a pawn shop!!!
