We all need to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom. We all bleed red when we get cut. And we were all made a promise on the day that we were born, that one day, whether we like it or not, we are ALL going to die.

Having said that, isn't it silly to think that one person is better than another?

Mr. Panacea (universal remedy for what?)

You and your attitude are exactly what I am talking about. I come from a family where everybody has a Masters or a Doctorate. I have even heard a couple of my relatives say that to them a person is only as important as the letters are behind their names, which is DEAD wrong!

I may have had better opportunities, or made better choices, but that doesn't make me any better that the next person.

The next time you're sitting on the toilet constipated and trying to strain to sh*t, think about just how SPECIAL you are!

I think it's silly to think you are better than anyone else for the simple fact that every one is different. We all have special talents and jobs that we can do. You can't expect a construction worker to write a best selling novel and an author to build houses. Would you want an english teacher to treat you in the hospital or a vet do your taxes? In my opinion the people who think they are better then other people are the ones that have been born into priveleged lives. (not in all cases) If money and shelter were taken away from them would they know how to survive living in the streets? If not, does that make a bum better than a rich boy? My point is there's no way to compare and contrast people to see whos better than who because everyone's situation is different! Is an elephant better than a seal? And oh yeah, the part were we all die and none of it matters anyway!

I don't think I'm no better then the next person, no matter who the next person is and I don't think that anyone is better than me. I just think that what seperates people or gives them reason to believe they are better than each other is the life they live or how much money they make. Everyone is equal, society and the media is what gives people reason to believe we are better than each other. They are constanly taking polls of who lives in the rich area or the poor area, which race is less educated or makes more money. Polls like that, that the media discloses to the world is why people think they are better than each other when we all have to work for a living, breathe the same air, and walk among each other.

(Example) People think that they are better than homeless people because the homeless person doesn't have a stable shelter over him and is dirty. When you think about it the homeless person is in better shoes, becuase it dosen't have to pay for shelter, can get a free meal and best of all, has no bills to pay. Who's living the sweet life?

Different people contribute different amounts to society and are of higher quality in other ways.

I'm sorry, but my doctorate holding, 6 figure salary, family oriented self is far better than some crack addict living under a bridge somewhere.

I demand that society give me preference over him and I have the power to enforce my will in the matter.

And, well, some people live mooching off of their parents and playing D&D in their basements until they're forty five, some people beat people up because they are gay. Some people kill their parents; some people torture and rape others.

Some people donate to the needy, some people go out and make a difference in the world, some people find cures for diseases.

So, yeah. We're not all equal.

When it comes to our most basic human needs - we are all equal, but we have not all been equally gifted with means and ability.
So depending on how you define your measures, in most cases you will find that people are not all equal.

This fallacy probably arose because we believe that it is FAIR that we all have equal RIGHTS until we've proven ourselves undeserving. Rights are not equivalent to privileges which typically have to be earned or attained. Without equal means and abilities, equal achievement is therefore impossible.

Tina- When you stop to consider the distance between the two most different people you personally have ever met, and then think that there are close to 6,000,000,000 of us, you are 100% correct. It's ludicrous to think that any differences between any of us amount to a hill of beans!

Yes, i think it is silly to think one person is better than another. However, lots of people do judge people and compare them. It is not silly to say that one perso is better than another at SOMETHING, whether it's playing and instrument or sport. "Better" is a weak word, it is not specific and people interpret better in different ways.

no, it's not silly. some people contribute a lot to society. some people contribute little to society.

you think that every was born equally? hell no. the founding fathers were wrong. you were born stupider than some people and smarter than some people; you were born taller, shorter, stronger, weaker than some people.

the concept that every is created equally is complete bullshit.

in the eyes of another people.... no. in the "eye" of God... we don't know. But don't you think that a person who knows his knowledge and another person who knows not any is better than the second person? Don't you think that people who doesn't even know how to operate a computer is better than you, who know how to ask question using yahoo answers? or otherwise?
