I have a 1990 Cadillac than runs very well, other than getting some gas fumes when I have the air on. It stalled on me the other day and I think I flooded the engine-that's about when I noticed this problem. Is this something I need to fix mechanically or will the gasoline eventually "burn off" and go away?

Hope I can disagree without being disagreeable. If the only time you noticed the fumes in the car was after flooding the thing you shuld have no problem. You might think about leaving the A/C setting on max. In most cases, if it's not on max, outside air is introduced and the system acutally works harder to cool the interior than when it's on max. That's OK but you really don't need to cool any more outside air than necessary. If you smoke in the car, that's a different story.

This is a problem that needs to be addressed asap. If you have gas fumes you have gas vapors which can lead to fire not to mention that your are inhaling hydrocarbons which are probably a carcinogen (can cause cancer). If the vapors are noticed only when the a/c is on then chances are the vapors are contained under the hood near the air intake for the interior ventilation.I would look for a fuel leak at fuel lines on top of the engine it doesn't have to be a big leak to smell the vapors. BE ADVISED this is a highly volatile situation so the possibility of fire is very high. See a trained professional if this is beyond your abilities. The money spent will be well worth it.

If you get gas fumes on the inside of the car, I would stop driving the car. It could explode on you.

if you flooded it that is why you were smelling the fumes that should go away quickly though and would have nothing to do with running your air

Stop driving the car. Have a mechanic come look at it. Ifyou explain the situation, they'll probably pick it up for you too.
