My sister's doc insisted on a earlier conception date than my sister knew was possible. Because of doc's insistence, a test for genetic abnormalities showed up with problems.
Actually, tho, there were no problems, because the fetus was younger than the doctor thought and so the test results, while they would have been bad for an older fetus, were just fine for the actual fetus tested.
Is this the type of problem you mean? They want to go with your last cycle for only one reason - it's easier. With a stupid doctor, then, you will constantly be off schedule in their lame minds and you will be considered 'late' and they'll want to induce labor, when, in fact, your baby is just fine and not ready to come yet.

hmm...well you should be 8 weeks if they are going from the first day of your last menstrual cycle, which they do. As far as the heartbeat...I wouldn't worry yet. Six weeks is still quite early and the heartbeat may not be detectable yet even through ultrasound. As long as youre not having cramps, bleeding, an hcg level that's dropping...you should be ok. Try not to worry yet. Best of luck!

Usually if the tech can not find a heartbeat they ask someone else to try or in our hospital they call the OB on call to come and assess. Did the tech seem worried at the time, or did they explain to you that because the infant is so small sometimes it may be hard to assess. Either way, I think it would be best if you call and ask to see your doctor earlier then Wednesday so that you can ask him to explain what is going on.

That is right. They go by the date of your last period which is normally 2 weeks before you conceived. Also, they can't always pick up a heartbeat that early. Usually it's between 7-8 weeks via ultrasound, 12+ weeks via doppler.

My doctor went to ask for my last cycle when I was pregnant with my firstborn because that way, they can compute for the expected date of baby's delivery. It is much more convenient for them. It would be a bit too intrusive for them to ask when or specify the dates you had sex with your husband, right?
What could possibly be wrong with your baby? No heartbeat? Usually heartbeat can be heard even as early as 3-4 weeks... I hope you could ask your OB BYN what could be wrong with your baby...
I hope you and your baby will be ok...

I would try and get in tomorrow and find out what the problem is. I have heard that there should be a heartbeat around 6 weeks.

Going by last cycle is easier because sperm can live in you and you can be pregnant earlier or later than you think. Its only a two week difference either way so it wont matter if your blood levels are saying they are too low or something like that, all pregancies are figured like this so they sound like they have a real concern.

You'll need to tell us what's wrong, otherwise all we can do is guess.
