You can get a solid air freshener. Go to walmart or the dollar store or someplace, you can usally get them anywhere. It's like a little tub about the size of a margarine container and it has this weird spongey thing inside which sucks up odours. You just leave it opened in the car for a few hours (the directions should be on it). That'll probably work the best. I used it to get the musty smell out of a suitcase. Maybe buy 2 of them for a car. Also, you can put a couple open boxes of baking soda in there. Wiping down the dash area with something lemony will help, and also cleaning the inside windows.
Here are some examples of the air freshener, there are all different kinds. Some leave virtually no scent whatsoever.

It will take a long time to get rid of
put potpourri in scrubbed out ash tray
put fresh orange peels or dryer sheets under seat
keep windows down as much as you can to air it out
shampoo seats and carpet
rub dryer sheet on headliner
learn from this and don't buy a vehicle from a smoker next time

the charcoal is a good answer, but try putting some pinesol in a cup/bowl and let it sit and that should help. I did buy a product called odogun and it worked fast like ten minutes. It even worked on the weedstench too!. But I have not seen the odogun in alongtime good luck man

try some carpet and upholstery cleaner then use febreeze if that doesn't take it all out and try to ride with the windows down or leave the doors open to let it air out. also the little cherry cans of air freshener you find at wal-mart will help until you can breathe again. I had that problem with my truck and it eventually came out

You should take the car and have it detailed....Have the interior shampooed and the carpets steam cleaned. This might reduce the smell alot. If it doesn't take care of the smell enough for you....you may have to replace the seatcovering, carpet, and headliner.

take a plastic bucket and fill it only one fourth full with a mixture of water and a cup of bleach. Leave it in the vehical with the windows up overnight. Take bucket out in the morning, of course, and drive with the windows down . Repeat if needed, although it never fails to work.

I have heard Febreeze works pretty well. You might check with a professional automobile cleaning place if this doesn't work. They may have something stronger.
